Tour Plan

01

Morning: A Journey Through Time

  • The first stop on the tour is the Mahatma Gandhi Settlement, established in 1904. It was here, at the Phoenix Settlement, that Mahatma Gandhi developed and lived by the principles of Satyagraha, shaping his philosophy of non-violent protest.
  • Next, we visit Ohlange Institution, a World Heritage Site founded in 1900 by Dr. John Langalibalele Dube, the first president of the African National Congress. Notably, Ohlange is where Dr. Nelson Mandela cast his first democratic vote in 1994.
  • We continue to the Inanda Seminary heritage site, one of Africa’s oldest educational institutions for African girls, established in 1869 by American missionaries.
02

Midday:Enjoy Local Flavors

  • This tour would be incomplete without indulging in authentic local cuisine. Therefore, we will take you to a local eatery to enjoy a delicious traditional meal or popular shisanyama. This experience will give you a chance to meet friendly locals and experience true South African hospitality.
03

Afternoon: Nature & Adventure Awaits

  • Following lunch, we will take you to experience nature as we ascend Matata Mountain, a hidden gem that provides breathtaking panoramic views of Inanda Dam and the vast, lush landscapes beyond. At this location, you will learn about the unique local flora, including indigenous protea trees.
  • We conclude the day with a visit to the Rasta Caves, a spiritual sanctuary for the local Rastafarian community. Nestled in the picturesque Inanda Valley, these caves provide an immersive glimpse into Rastafarian beliefs, rituals, and way of life.
