Morning: Walking Through Our History

  • The first stop is the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, a globally significant heritage site commemorating the moment Mandela was arrested in 1962. As you walk through the interactive museum and iconic sculpture walk, you’ll uncover the powerful story of his struggle, sacrifice, and legacy.
  • Then midmorning we’ll take a moment to enjoy a cup of locally brewed coffee or tea at a nearby café. These cosy spots also have Mandela souvenirs and handcrafted items — perfect mementos to remember this powerful and emotional experience.

Midday: Good Food, Good Vibes

  • No trip to the Midlands is complete without enjoying some of the local food. We’ll stop for lunch at one of the popular spots in the area, where you can tuck into a proper farm-style meal, grab a wood-fired pizza, or enjoy some good old traditional local dishes, all made with fresh, local ingredients.
  • For those who are interested, they can enjoy a tasting of local craft beer or wine, one of the Midlands' special treats.

Afternoon: Scenery, Stories & Local Flavour

  • After lunch, we’ll take a drive through the Midlands Meander, passing by farms, old windmills, big old houses, and little art spots dotted around the countryside. ]
  • Next stop is be Howick Falls, where the uMngeni River drops down about 95 metres in a stunning waterfall. Locals call it “KwaNogqaza,” which means “Place of the Tall One.” It’s not just a beautiful spot – it’s also full of local stories and legends.
  • The last stop on this tour, is at The Windmills along the N3, a spot with small shops, local markets, and beautiful views of the countryside. It’s the perfect place to relax, grab a coffee or snack, and take in the scenery before we head back to Durban.
